Kathryn P., Medical Office Manger

I’ve had chronic sinus problems as much of my adult life as I can remember. From my early 20s, I have had severe sinus headaches, sinus infections, and as I’ve gotten older, they have just gotten more frequent. I’ve gone to physicians more often in the past several years then any other period in my life (every three months). I’ve been to allergists, ENTs, my internist and a variety of other physicians. But regardless of the antibiotics or medications I tried, I never got better. If I were to go outdoors to a party for example, I could count on being in bed with severe swelling …

I couldn’t even go for a ride in our convertible. I finally found an ENT doctor who was trained on a new technology, Balloon Sinuplasty™.

The new doctor used the door and the hinge analogy. And it was very easy to understand. And being so minimally non-invasive, I was very receptive to it whereas having a major surgery is scary. But when your quality of life is such that you’re not able to enjoy life; you’re not able to go to the park with your grandkids and do the things you want to do because you have such a bad sinus headache, you know it is time to make a change.

After the surgery, I would say at two weeks I had resumed everything. It was right before the third week when it was the strangest thing because the swelling, I guess, had gone down enough to where I actually felt, when I breathed, I could feel the air going into my cheeks. For anyone suffering with sinusitis, I would say schedule it now. It is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It … I just wish I would have known about this years ago so I could have alleviated all those years of suffering and recaptured all the activities and events and things that I missed because of my sinuses. And on a July 4th weekend, we took our convertible out, up and down Highway 1 on the Coast for three days, not one sinus headache; no congestion; nothing.
